At the Southern Pacific area of Costa Rica, near Dominical, there is sandy bridge that connects the mainland with a rocky islet, that looks like a perfect whale´s tail in low tide. This area and surroundings are well known for being one of the best spots to watch humpback whales coming from North and South America. These warm waters are just what these whales are looking for when the winter time arrives to their places of origin. The whale’s seasons are from December to April and from July to October.
This tour is the closest to make you feel yourself like Tarzan, from one tree to another. It is also one of the best ways to explore the richness of the canopy, where the biggest amount of the forest´s biodiversity is found. The canopy tour consists of a series of suspended cables attached from tree to tree on which you can glide along using a pulley that is secured to one harness. Cables vary in length (they can measure up to 1 km long!) and end in small wooden or metal platforms built in the tops of trees.
Costa Rica it is one of the best places in the world to surf; not by chance the country is the third most popular destination for this sport after Hawaii and Indonesia. Some of the reasons are: beaches with excellent year-round waves, pleasant weather, warm water, friendly people and reasonable prices. On 2009, the Billabong World Surfing Games, took place in Costa Rica with the participation of 35 countries. Costa Rica is also one of the few counties in the world where two great oceans are within a 6-hour drive of each other. This makes possible to wake up early in morning and surf on the Caribbean sea and enjoy a sunset while surfing on the pacific coast.
Many years ago, the rains created wonderful rivers and stunning landscapes along their causes. These rivers have helped us offering tourists a unique experience that combines adventure with nature. The white water rafting has become an activity that let us show the natural beauty of Costa Rica from a different perspective. Currently, this activity can be practiced from several tourist areas of Costa Rica, not only from San Jose as it was in the beginning. The strategic location of our country, has helped some rivers have sufficient water flow throughout the year and allow the practice of this wonderful activity during the year. Since rivers Class 1 up to Class 5 rivers, rise in the mountains of this small country, allowing tourists to choose the degree of difficulty they want to face.
