The main reason for this suggestion is  because direct beach boarding may not always be possible. The beach in front of JW Marriott (Playa Mansita) is beautiful but not ideal for direct boarding onto a sailboat or catamaran. You can read some of the main reasons:

• Open beach: Playa Mansita doesn’t have a protected bay or dock — the waves can be strong, and the seabed gets deep quickly.

• Surf & swell: Depending on the season (especially December–April), there can be consistent Pacific swells, which make it unsafe or impossible for catamarans to approach close enough for boarding.

• No marina or pier: There isn’t a fixed boarding point; so passengers would have to use a small dinghy to reach the sailboat, which is risky when the surf is up.

Where your tour starts from JW Marriott

Guanacaste Sailing Charters don’t board directly from JW Marriott beach for safety reasons. Instead we arrange a short transportation to Tamarindo or Marina Flamingo. Our shuttle or private van will pick customers up directly at the hotel lobby and drive them to the boarding point.
